Scots defeat Brevard 10-2 behind strong pitching by Heffner, Logsdon

The Maryville College baseball team took advantage of six Brevard College errors to win the second game of the three-game series by the score of 10-2. This game was concluded on Sunday after darkness halted the game in the sixth inning on Saturday evening in Brevard, North Carolina.

 

The Scots only managed a six-hit attack with Jake Petersen, Johnny Carpenter, and Drew Johnson recording key RBI during the victory.

 

Senior left-hander Evan Heffner earned the victory on the mound after going three innings allowing only one earned run. Trevor Townsend recorded a pair of no-hit innings with a pair of strikeouts before Joe Logsdon finished off the final four innings. The sophomore right-hander struck out four and scattered three hits while not allowing a run.

 

Offensively, six different Scots collected hits. Caleb Adams scored on three occasions while Andrew Henry and Drew Johnson each touched the plate twice.

 

The victory moves Maryville to 12-2 on the season while Brevard falls to 2-10.

 

The series will conclude on Sunday on Brevard's Gil Coan Field.
