In 2008 Ron Waters was hired to start up the first golf program in Maryville College's history and to coach its men's and women's teams.
Coach Waters retired from Heritage High School, in 2008 after
30 years of service as a teacher and coach. While at Heritage he
coached the golf teams for 10 years and was named as District or
Regional Coach of the Year on four occasions. He also served as the
school's boys basketball coach for 16 seasons.
As an amateur golfer, Waters recently won the "2012 Tennessee PGA
Players Championship". In 2011 he was the " Tennessee Senior
Amateur Champion", the "Knoxville Tour's
Senior Champion", and the "Knoxville Tour's Senior
Player of the Year". He has also been a member of the
Tennessee Challenge Cup Team seven times.
As an amateur golfer, Waters led Team Tennessee in the
International Team Matches in Lima, Peru in 2000. Waters has
won many of East Tennessee's top amateur and professional
events such as the Chattanooga Coca-Cola Classic, Holston Hills and
Ridgefield Invitationals, The Knox and Anderson County Amateurs
and a record five Blount County tournament championships. He
is an 11 time Green Meadow Country Club Champion and he has also
claimed four Senior Club Championships. In 2009 Coach Waters was
elected to the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame.
Waters received his B.S. in Education from the University of
Tennessee and in 1978 and in 1988 he received his M.S. in
Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial
University. Coach Waters and his wife Lynn reside in
Alcoa.
