Strong second half lifts Scots past Berea 4-1

The Maryville College men's soccer team moved to 7-1 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Berea College on Wednesday evening in Berea, Kentucky.

 

The hosting Mountaineers took an early lead when Pedro Herrera posted an unassisted goal only 1:27 into the challenge.

 

Although the Scots out-shot Berea 11-3 in the first half, the Mountaineers took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

 

Maryville tallied the equalizer just before the 67th minute when Johnny Rakhmonberdiev took a Randy Reichenberger pass and deposited his 4th goal of the season.

 

The eventual game-winning goal tickled the twine only a minute later when Cody VanKerschaever placed a Chris Fernandez pass past Berea keeper Noah DeHart.

 

The Scots added an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Jameson Elmore dropped an unassisted goal for his second goal of the season.

 

With less than four-minutes remaining in the league road challenge, Aaron Rucker took an Austin Vinyard pass and tallied his first goal of the season.

 

Maryville's offense out-shot Berea 16-0 in the second period giving them a 27-3 shot advantage throughout the match. Reichenberger paced the Scots with five shots while Rakhmonberciev and VanKerschaever each placed five attacks.

 

Berea's DeHart turned away seven MC shots on goal but suffered the loss in net. MC's Ryan Jorgensen earned his 7th victory in net recording a lone save.

 

Maryville, 4-0 in league action, will now prepare to host LaGrange College on Saturday and Centre College on Sunday on MC's home pitch.
