The Maryville College women's basketball team closed out the 2017 calendar year with a 67-41 victory over USA South foe Agnes Scott College in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The Scots posted a 33-20 advantage at the half pulling away in the second stanza with an 8-for-10 effort from the charity stripe.
MC extended their lead in the third quarter by shooting 40% (6-for-15) from the floor, 50% (2-for-4) from beyond the arc, and 83% (5-for-6) from the free throw line.
Maryville finished the challenge forcing 29 Agnes Scott turnovers while recording 16 steals. The Scots' stingy defense allowed only a 33% shooting effort from the floor that included a 16% (2-for-12) success rate from long-distance. Offensively for the entire matchup, MC shot 36% from the floor while going 22-for30 (73%) from the free throw line.
Agnes Scott (1-10, 0-3 USA South) was paced by Garis Grant's game-high 20 points. She also hauled down seven rebounds. Jane Lado tossed in eight points while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Maryville (6-6, 2-0 USA South) extends their win streak to five while remaining unblemished in league play. "I like what we did defensively," stated MC Head Basketball Coach Darrin Travillian. "Our kids are a little bit gassed after back-to-back challenges. This is life in the USA South and this weekend was a great dress rehearsal for the remainder of our schedule."
The Scots will now prepare for Covenant College on Tuesday, January 2nd. Maryville will host their USA South divisional rival on Randy Lambert Court with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
