Even though it was senior day honoring six lady soccer players, it was junior Ashley Howarth that stole the show in a 3-1 victory over the Monarchs of Methodist University on Sunday in Maryville.
Howharth's heroics would start in the ninth minute as senior Caitlin Ramsey would play a ball to the feet of Howarth and the junior would deposit the ball into the back of the net. Methodist would add their only goal on the afternoon to knot the game at one. Less than three minutes after the Methodist goal the Scots would answer back in the 18th minute of play when Howarth would add her second goal of the day, this time from Sierra Siegel. Maryville would ride the 2-1 advantage into the half.
Maryville would waste little time getting on the scoreboard in the second half as Sierra Siegel would score in the opening minute of the second half with the help of Howarth. The Scots would out shoot the Monarchs 17-8 on the afternoon.
"We closed out a good weekend for us today," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "It felt good to be able to send the seniors out winners in their last regular season home match. I'm proud of the careers they have had and the women they have become."
The win brings Maryville to 10-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in USA South action. The Scots will close out the regular season when they travel to Ferrum on Wednesday. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
