The Maryville College women's soccer program cruised to their fourth straight victory with a key non-conference South region victory over Ferrum College on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-0 on the Scots' home pitch.
The stingy defense of Alyssa Kral, Kelly Allen, Miranda Lukas, and Sarah Wickman limited a very athletic Panther squad to only 13 total shots with eight on goal. MC keeper Abbey Coleman moved to 2-0 in net with the shutout recording eight saves.
The Scots recorded the eventual game-winning goal just six minutes within the challenge. Bailey Sipos trapped a cross, directed a shot from left to right. The keeper got both hands on the blast but it trickled into the net for the freshman's 10th goal of the season.
Maryville's Shannon Reagan continued her consistent scoring pace with her sixth goal of the season to make the score 2-0. In the 27th minute, the sophomore dribbled through the box on the left side striking a left-footer past Panther keeper Taylor Dodson into the bottom right of the net.
The first half ended 2-0 and Sipos would add an insurance goal, her 11th of the season, in the 33rd minute of the final period. From 18-yards out, the rookie connected on a right-footer into the upper-right of the net making the final score 3-0.
"You can have some great soccer teams, but if you don't have players sticking the ball into the net consistently, it puts a great deal of pressure on the defense," stated Maryville College Head Coach Pepe Fernandez. "It has been great to have a variety of players be finishers this season. I also though our entire defense, especially our experienced players in the back, did a great job posting a pair of shutouts this weekend."
The victory advances Maryville to 6-2-1 on the season while Ferrum falls to 5-3.
The Scots will now prepare for a key non-conference matchup at Brevard College on Tuesday, September 16th. MC's next home match will be Tuesday, October 3rd when they host Covenant at 7:00 p.m.
