Scots defeat Ferrum behind del Campo's double-double effort

The Maryville College volleyball team hosted USA South foe Ferrum College on Wednesday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium. The Scots advanced to 15-10 on the season with a 3-1 win over the Panthers by the scores of 25-19, 25-8, 22-25, and 25-17. Maryville advanced to 6-1 in league play with Ferrum falling to 3-17 overall and 1-6 in USA South action.

Maryville attacked at a 22% success rate at the net with Kelsey Handel pacing the Scots with 13 kills. Kara Strickland and Sophia del Campo each deposited 11 kills while being fed consistent passes by Teri Lind (23 assists) and Lauren Bonee (12 assists). Morgan Hall led MC on defense with 14 digs while Mallory Bonee and del Campo added 13 digs. The 11 kill,13 dig effort by del Campo, the reigning USA Freshman of the Week, is the rookie's first collegiate double-double.

The Scots will host North Carolina Wesleyan and LaGrange College on Sunday for a league tri-match beginning at 11:00 a.m. MC will honor their seniors Kara Strickland and Teri Lind in a brief ceremony to begin the 3:00 match against LaGrange.
