The Maryville College volleyball team evened their seasonal record to 4-4 with a sweep on Saturday at the Lynchburg College Invitational. The Scots dropped the first set only to defeat Oglethorpe University 3-1 before closing out tournament action with a come-from-behind victory over tournament host Lynchburg by the score of 3-2.
Maryville defeated Oglethorpe by the scores of 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-15.
Against the Stormy Petrels of OU, MC's Julia Vineyard paced the attack at the net with 13 kills. Allison Botts and Nia Haller added a combined 17 kills with Botts providing a dozen digs and Haller directing four service aces. Mackenzie Marcrum helped Botts on defense with an additional 11 digs. Saidee McDaniel directed MC's efficient offense with an amazing 38 assists.
As Maryville advanced to 3-4, Oglethorpe fell to 5-3 behind nine kill efforts by Santreece Stephens and Kaitlyn Woodruff.
The Scots closed out a weekend of tough competition with a win over the Hornets by the scores of 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, and 15-5.
MC's Saidee McDaniel continued her leadership on the floor with 42 assists. Her favorite targets were Julia Vineyard with 15 kills and Brianne Sidner with 15 kills. Kori Jacot added 10 kills. On defense, Maryville returned 88 digs with Kaitlyn Flickinger posting 26 digs. McDaniel completed a double-double effort with 15 digs as well.
MC advanced to 4-4 as Lynchburg fell to 7-2 on the season. The tournament hosts were led by Jennifer Garnett's 21 kills.
Maryville will now prepare for the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia next Friday and Saturday.
