Health, Safety, and Sports Medicine at Maryville College
Our coaches, administrators, and athletic trainers do everything possible to prevent injuries and provide our student-athletes with a safe, successful athletic experience. Injuries are a part of athletics, and Maryville College boasts one of the finest athletic programs in Division III. Our athletic training facility is one of the larger, better-equipped facilities in the region. We have plans to expand it to the finest in Division III. Our staff includes four NATA certified athletic trainers and four team physicians. Our state-of-the-art physical therapy center and hospital are directly across the street from our campus. This provides our athletes with the best medical care when they need it.
Maryville College boasts an outstanding student athletic trainer experience. Students who are interested in gaining valuable experience in sports medicine are encouraged to become involved in our program. Our program typically includes ten to thirteen student athletic trainer aids. Each student is evaluated on his or her abilities and given increasingly-demanding responsibilities based on their abilities. Unlike many larger programs, our student aids work with each of our varsity sports, beginning in the fall with football. Eligible students may qualify for student work-study through our office of financial aid. All of our students have the opportunity to gain additional experience by working at local therapy centers. Graduates of our program have gone on to successful careers in athletic training, physical therapy, and various other areas of health care.
