Six MC hurlers shutout Wasps 8-0 on a three-hitter

Six Maryville College hurlers combined to three-hit Emory & Henry College allowing the Scots to claim an 8-0 shutout victory over the Wasps on Wednesday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.


Starter Luke Williams earned the win after allowing only one hit over the first three innings of action. Jacob Gossett equaled William's numbers while getting the Scots through six complete innings. Joe Logsdon, Kevin Black, Bleu Butcher, and Trevor Townsend nailed down the final three innings allowing only one combined hit.


Maryville's 14-hit offensive attack was paced by Andrew Henry's 3-for-4 afternoon. Alden Wright added a 2-for-3 effort while driving in a game-high pair of runs.


The Scots tallied five runs in their first plate appearance. While batting through the order, Bryce Redaja, Alden Wright, and Drew Johnson had key RBI knocks for the Scots.


MC tacked on a run in the fifth when Johnny Carpenter crossed home plate on a wild pitch.


Eric Hart drove in Redaja in the seventh with a groundout before Mike Homan sent Derek Hurt home with an RBI single to left field.


Maryville will put their 8-0 start to the test this weekend when they welcome USA South action. The Scots will host North Carolina Wesleyan College for a three-game series beginning on Saturday. MC will host the Bishops for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The final game of the series will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
