Monarchs take league series with 11-2 win over Scots

The No. 21 Methodist University Monarchs claimed a key USA South Athletic Conference series with the Maryville College Scots in baseball taking the final game of the three-game set by the score of 11-2 in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Sunday.


Maryville's Gabe Lopez tallied three of the Scots' five total hits while the Monarchs took advantage of three MC errors and 14 walks while using a nine-hit offensive attack to claim the league victory.


The Scots tallied a run in the first inning when Drew Johnson took a bases-loaded walk for an RBI scoring Lopez. The only other MC run scored in the seventh inning when Logan Hayes drew another bases-loaded walk scoring Kolton Hicks.


Lopez finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored while Logan Hayes and Christian Poulsen provided Maryville's only additional hits.


Maryville falls to 11-9 overall and 4-6 in USA South play while Methodist advances to 17-3 and 8-1 in league action.


The Scots will return to Scotland Yard on Monday at 7:00 p.m. to host Calvin College.
