Coach Hufford enter his fourth season as MC’s linebackers coach in 2018.

In three season developing MC's linebackers, Hufford has produced five All-USA South linebackers. Gabe Johnson ('15), Kent Minor ('15), Cedric Brown ('16), Trey Melton ('16), and Cedric Brown ('17). Each were honored by the conference under Hufford's tutelage.

Hufford came to Maryville College with a wealth of Division III and USA South Athletic Conference knowledge. He's spent five years at Methodist University as the Monarch's Recruiting Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, and Safeties Coach.

Hufford played a crucial role in the Monarch's USA South Co-Championship in 2013, as Maryville College and Methodist University shared the title with a 6-1 conference record. Maryville would earn its first-ever NCAA bid with the tiebreaker over the Monarchs.

Hufford led D.J. Payne to the USA South Returner of the Year Award as the sophomore averaged 29.9 return yards per attempt. He also helped Monarch kicker Cody Ausherman to two consecutive All-Conference bids, as the kicker was 9-of-12 on field goals with a long of 43 yards last season.

Hufford directed the safeties corps at Methodist, as the team ranked fourth in the USA South last season with only 164 passing yards per contest. The team had 11 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries and a USA South second-ranked attack that posted 24 sacks.

Prior to his stint at Methodist, Hufford earned an associate's degree from Ashland University in 2005. Hufford's collegiate playing days were numbered at Ashland University due to a knee injury, becoming a volunteer assistant coach at Division II's Tiffin University in 2007.

He earned his bachelor's degree of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 2008 from Heidelberg University while serving as Co-Defensive Coordinator for Mohawk High School – his alma mater in 2008. Hufford served as a graduate assistant while earning his master's degree of education at Heidelberg University in 2010.

Zach married to Veronica Garza Hufford in 2018 and they have two boys Caleb and Ethan. They reside in Knoxville.
