Five Scots post double digit scoring in 81-67 victory over Berry extending win streak to six

The Maryville College men's basketball squad captured their sixth consecutive challenge with an 81-67 victory over Berry College in Rome, Georgia on Tuesday evening.


The host Vikings battled to a 24-20 lead with an 8-3 run late in the first half. A three-pointer by Emanuel Garcia and a lay-up by Chris Watson tied the game at 25 before the Scots would cruise to a 36-30 halftime advantage. Each team connected at a 42% clip from the floor with Maryville pulling away with a 5-for-19 effort from the perimeter while Berry went 0-for-5 from long distance.


MC ensured that the sixth lead change would be the last going on a 7-1 run to begin the first two-minutes of the second half.


Berry would battle for the next six minutes closing the gap to 50-48 with a Tanner Spalding basket at the 12-minute mark.


Just five minutes later, key baskets by Colt Nokes, Calvin Songster, and Tyler Spicer helped MC jump out to a ten-point lead, 63-53.


Maryville posted five, 15-point leads before finishing with the key 81-67 road win.


Berry, 4-8, has dropped their last seven games. They were paced by Tanner Spalding's 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Caleb Johnson added 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting. MC's defense limited the Vikings to a 40% shooting effort.


Maryville, 10-1 and winners of six straight, was led by Calvin Songster's 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Chris Watson deposited 12 point after going 6-for-9 from the floor. Tyler Spicer added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds while Dante Hoppa and Colt Nokes each tossed in ten points.


The Scots will prepare to host Berea College on Saturday in the Cooper Athletic Center with a 2:00 tip-off in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
