The Maryville College men's basketball squad earned their second consecutive victory with an 81-52 win over Oglethorpe University in the LaGrange College Invitational in LaGrange, Georgia on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots posted a 21-point advantage before the half with Emanuelle Garcia and Dante Hoppa each posting 11 points before the intermission. MC's stingy defense held the Stormy Petrels to only 33% shooting (9-for-27) while creating nine turnovers. The Scots converted a dozen points off those miscues. During the final ten minutes of the first period, Maryville outpaced Oglethorpe 21-10.
Maryville cruised through the final period with as much as a 30-point advantage following a trio of Daquan Summers baskets at the 5:09 mark. The Scots finished the challenge 32-for-59 (54%) from the floor and 11-for-21 (52%) from beyond the arc. MC's defensive did not waiver in the closing stanza holding Oglethorpe to a 31% shooting effort including an 8-for-32 (25%) success rate from long distance.
Oglethorpe (2-2) was paced by Will Perry's game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Maryville (2-2) was led by Emanuelle Garcia's 16 points. The junior from Miami deposited four treys while going 6-for-8 from the floor. Dalton, Georgia native Emier Bowman finished with 14 points, including a pair of thunderous dunks, while hauling down a team-high five rebounds. Dante Hoppa, a junior from Naples, Florida added 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
The Scots will challenge Emory University on Sunday in LaGrange, Georgia to conclude the LaGrange Invitational. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
