The Maryville College men's basketball team had five players post double-digit scoring, but it was not enough as the Emory University Eagles defeated the Scots 102-92 in the LaGrange College Invitational in LaGrange, Georgia on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles posted a 52-39 halftime advantage with both team shooing 52% from the floor and the Scots out-shooting Emory from the perimeter. Emory took advantage of 11 Scots first-half turnovers converting those miscues to 18 points.
Maryville kept pace in the second half but could not close the early deficit. The Scots finished 30-for-56 (53%) from the floor while Emory was 36-for-69 (52%). Emory capitalized on their free throws sinking 18-of-22 (82%) while MC deposited only 22-of-33 (66%).
Emory (3-1) was paced by Romin Williams' 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also connected on 5-of-10 three-pointers while leading the Eagles with nine rebounds. Gabereal Baitey went 5-for-8 from the floor for 16 points. Adam Gigax added 14 while Matt Davet posted 11.
Maryville (2-3) was led by Dante Hoppa's 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Kaleb Estes and Calvin Songster each posted 13 points while Emier Bowman and Colt Nokes each finished with 10. Bowman paced MC on the boards with eight rebounds.
The Scots will return to the Boydson Baird Gymnasium on December 2nd to challenge Randolph College. Tip-off on Randy Lambert Court is schedule for 2:00 p.m.
