The Maryville College men's basketball team earned their eighth consecutive victory with an 85-60 win over USA South Athletic Conference foe Pfeiffer University on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons entered the challenge averaging over 100 points per contest, but the Scots' stingy defense allowed only a 32% shooting effort that included only a 6-for-24 success rate (25%) from beyond the arc. Maryville countered with an almost 49% shooting attack (34-for-70).
Dante Hoppa deposited a game-high 20 points for the Scots on 7-of 13 shooting that included a 6-for-10 effort from long distance. He added six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Emier Bowman had an unbelievable line score of 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, six steals, and five blocked shots. Nick Clifton finished with a double-double. He tallied 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting while bringing down a game-high 14 rebounds. Calvin Songster added 13 points while Joshua Brooks tossed in 10 points off the bench.
Pfeiffer (9-11, 5-9 USA South) was led by Kyle Riddley's 14 points while Nolan Whitener added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Maryville (15-6, 11-3 USA South) will prepare to host Huntingdon next Saturday, February 9th. The 2:00 p.m. tip-off against the Hawks will feature a celebration of Head Coach Randy Lambert as he sets to retire at the conclusion of his 39th season.
