The Maryville College men's golf program finished ninth at the BSN Sports Dataw Invitational in Dataw Island, South Carolina on Tuesday evening.
Battling with 15 NCAA Division III programs among 88 golfers, Maryville posed a 318-314-308 (940) +76 team effort. McMurry University took team top honors with a three-round total of 884, 20 shots off par.
Individually, McMurry University's Brendon Lowrance earned the solo crown with a 71-74-72 (217) only one shot over par for the three-round effort. Ryan Quinn (Rensselaer Polytechnic), Will Hocker (Webster), and Elliot Bourke (McMurry) each placed second with a three-over-par 219.
Maryville's top performer was Brady Orr. Orr moved up four spots with his final round of 76 to finish 19th overall. Brady finished 16 over-par after posting scores of 77-79-76 (232).
A trio of Scots finished the tournament in 35th place with a three-round total of 236. Jacob Dunlap made the largest leap up the leaderboard climbing 10 spots after finishing with an 86-75-75. Senior Garrett Compliment tamed the course with rounds of 78-80-78 while Jake Duncan finished with efforts of 77-80-79. Jay Burgin finished Maryville scoring with a 96-91-86, improving by 10 strokes from his first-round outing.
"Our guys played well today," stated Coach Anthony Monaco. "I am very happy we finished on a good note. We beat a highly ranked opponent today and we were right with a few others. Hopefully, we'll ride that momentum into the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational next week."
