Scots Celebrate Senior Day With a Win

Hedges Wins in Final Home Tilt

MARYVILLE – It was a successful Senior Day for Maryville as the Scots and senior Jonah Hedges earned a 6-2 win over Berea.

The victory was the first USA South win for the MC squad this season.

"Super proud of the guys," said Maryville head coach Doug Corbett. "We try to pride ourselves in being a strong doubles team. That was the difference in the match!"

The Scots swept all three of those doubles matches on Friday evening. Kyle Shaver and Cooper Newman won the No. 1 match 8-6, their third win of the year, and Keshawn Haynes and Seth Green found victory in an 8-5 showing in the second slot. The final doubles match was won 8-3 by Ben Wyrick and Jonah Hedges, which ended up being his final home win in an MC uniform.

Shaver continued his success in singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot. He is currently 6-6 in solo action.

Newman, Wyrick, and Green also earned wins for Maryville on the singles side of the competition. Green's win was his fourth of the year, which places him second on the team in overall singles wins.

"This result was not about who had more talent, but about who worked harder and played smarter doubles," said Corbett. "It was awesome to see their efforts from practice materialize in a match against a conference opponent"

The Scots conclude their season with a trip to Brevard on Tuesday. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
