Maryville Falls 9-0 to Tornados

BREVARD, N.C. – Plenty of competitive matches took place but Maryville concluded its 2021-22 season with a 9-0 defeat at Brevard on Tuesday afternoon.

The Scots took three of the six singles matches to a third-set tiebreaker and also played tough in two of the three doubles matches. Brevard with wins in three of its last four matches qualified for the USA South Conference Tournament.

Kyle Shaver and Cooper Newman lost 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Jonah Hedges and Ben Wyrick were on the short end of an 8-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Shaver at No. 1 singles lost 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker after winning the second set 6-4. Keyshawn Haynes at No. 2 also dropped a tiebreaker in the third set by a 10-4 count after he won the opening set 6-4. And Wyrick at No. 5 singles lost his third-set tiebreaker 10-5 after he claimed the second set 6-2.

Maryville finishes its season 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the USA South. Brevard with the victory improves to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in the USA South.
