Scots fall to Randolph in nightcap, 5-2

The Maryville College Scots managed just six hits in Saturday's nightcap, as Randolph College earned the sweep with a 5-2 victory in Lynchburg, Va.

Deck – after leading the Scots with a three-hit attack in the first game of the day – again led MC with a 2-for-4 effort in the series finale. Amaya Goodloe and Christina White score a run each, while White tallied MC's only RBI of the second game.

Randolph (2-0) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, as a single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for the Wildcats. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Lexi Hawkins and Allie Jarrett scored Dominique Irving and Delaney Nuckols for a 2-0 Randolph lead early.

The Wildcats plated their third run of the afternoon in the bottom of the second, as back-to-back singles put runners on the corners. Nuckols earned the RBI with a single through the left side, scoring Railey Oetken for a 3-0 advantage.

Maryville (1-3) got a pair of runs back in the top of the third. Goodloe doubled to left, before an RBI triple by White made the score 3-1. White scored on a passed ball, making it 3-2 after three complete innings.

Randolph added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Hawkins managed a two-RBI single to make the final 5-2.

Reid Ballard joined Deck, White and Goodloe in the hits column with a 1-for-3 effort, while Kaliyah Hensic went 1-for-2.

For Randolph, it was Hawkins who went 2-for-3 with a trio of RBI. Nuckols was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI, while Jarrett went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Irving was 2-for-3 with a run, as the four combined for eight of the Wildcats' 11-hit attack.

Maryville will continue its weekend road trip, as the Scots travel to Emory, Va. for a double-header with Emory & Henry College. First pitch is slated for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
