The Maryville College volleyball team opened their USA South schedule with a sweep of Covenant College after earlier sweeping conference foe Agnes Scott College each by the score of 3-0 on Saturday evening in Lookout, Mountain, Georgia.
Against the host Scots, Maryville defeated the four-time divisional champion by the scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-11.
MC's Saidee McDaniel and Meredith Bonee directed an efficient offensive attack that connected for a 36-percent kill percentage during the challenge. Their favorite targets were Brianne Sidner who connected for a match-high 11 kills while Maggie Matthews tallied 10 kills in 17 attacks at the net.
Natalie Watts paced Maryville's defense with nine digs while Meredith Bonee returned seven Covenant shots. Dejane Hester-Taylor recorded a pair of solo blocks while Arin Wyttenbach added a pair of block assists to help MC hold Covenant to a 2-percent attack percentage.
Covenant falls to 2-11 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The victory advances Maryville to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
Maryville will return to action next Tuesday at Johnson University.
