The Maryville College volleyball team completed a key USA South weekend sweep with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over host LaGrange College on Saturday evening. The Scots defeated the Panthers by the scores of 25-18, 21-25, 28-26, and 25-19.
Saidee McDaniel and Meredith Bonee directed the offense with a combined 49 assists. Bonee completed a triple-double effort with 20 assists while depositing 10 kills and returning 13 digs. She also added four service aces. McDaniel tallied a double-double adding 10 digs on defense. Brianne Sidner accumulated a double-double of her own throwing down a match-high 13 kills while returning a match-high 16 digs. Maggie Mathews was also a favorite target of the setters after depositing a dozen kills. Dejane Hester-Taylor recorded nine kills while Arin Wyttenbach finished with eight kills. Natalie Watts equaled Sidner's defensive output with a team-high 16 digs while recording four service aces.
The complete team effort advanced Maryville to 16-6 overall while remaining undefeated in USA South action with a 7-0 mark. LaGrange falls to 5-16 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Maryville will return to action during Homecoming next weekend. The Scots will host Piedmont College and Brevard College on Saturday, October 19 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in MC's Copper Athletic Center.
