Joe Soutullo joined Maryville College’s cross country program as a volunteer in 2014. This 1965 graduate of West Jefferson High School in Marrero, Louisiana graduated with a degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with a minor in Social Studies from Southeastern Louisiana College in 1969 where he attended on a track scholarship. He was instrumental with the New Orleans Track Club beginning the first marathon in the south in 1964 known today as the Mardi Gras Marathon.
Joe was the cross country coach through Pinellas County school system from 1969-1999 and retired after 30 years of service. During his time as coach, his team won the Florida State Championship in 1978 and was runner-up in 1977. His 1988 boys and girls squads were also runners-up in the state title. In 1978 Joe was named the Florida State Coach of the Year. He also compiled numerous Pinellas County Coach of the Year honors throughout his career.
Joe is married to Marde Soutullo. They have four sons between them including Jody Soutullo, Peter Soutullo, Nathan Statkus, and Jason Statkus. The Soutullos reside in Greenback, Tennessee.
